We believe potty training can happen naturally without any pressure or stress to the child.
The staff at Skills For Life Child Care love teaching and potty time is our biggest exciting milestone. We are more than thrilled to help assist your family when your little one is showing natural clues and interest!
We do not push any child to go potty. We keep potty training exciting! We take the stress out of it! Everyone here loves to support and teach their little friends.
Before we just jump into potty training, we start to talk about it at a very young age. While we change our daycare little ones, we ask in a happy tone did you "pee or poo?" this helps them to start thinking about that funny feeling in their diapers. If we see a little one making the poo face while playing we will say “Oh you're pooping! Good job!". This helps them associate the word "pooping" with the feeling of pooping and not to think pooping is an embarrassing action.
Usually, there is always a "big kid" going potty while we are changing a younger child. At that time it gives the little ones the opportunity to be puzzled over a fancy seat all the big kids get to sit on. Once a toddler is walking and interested in trying the potty, we do not hold them back. Children are welcome to try to go to the washroom as much as they want!
Once the caregivers see the child is ready they will discuss it with the parents.
Parents know their children the best so please feel free talking with us about when you think it's the right time for your child. However, your child must be ready and you must be ready as well. This is something we should discuss between us since consistency between our homes will be so important; training takes both daycare and home participation. It's very important to have both daycare providers and parents commit to the same potty guidance plan to ensure that children do not get frustrated or discouraged.
