Naps are essential for a child under four years old!
Sleepy children are not able to cope with day-to-day challenges in their worlds if they have trouble controlling their emotions. The part of the brain that helps us to control our actions and our response to feelings is affected significantly by the lack of sleep. Not getting enough sleep can lead to developmental problems, such as behavior problems and attention problems. Getting enough day sleep helps their brains grow and develop so that they can learn and grow at the incredible rate that they do!
Skipping naps never improves a nights sleep! Naps also help children from becoming overtired, which not only takes a toll on their moods but may also make it harder for them to fall asleep at night.
We have rest time each afternoon between the hours of 12:00-1:00 p.m. and 2:00-3:00 p.m. Children under the age of four years old are required to lie down in the afternoon. Children are not required to fall asleep but are given the option to rest if they want to. Please understand that no child is allowed to be excluded from rest time. Once everyone under 36 months have had adequate time to fall asleep any child still awake may leave the room for quiet a time.
Cots are supplied for the children, as well as playpens for those that still
require them. Infants will be placed on his/her back in an approved playpen
in an upstairs bedroom for sleeping. Toddlers and preschoolers sleep on cots
in the upstairs napping rooms. Sleeping monitor(s) are located in the sleeping
room(s) for safety.
All blankets, sheets, and pillows will be supplied from Skills For Life Child Care.
Sleep companions may be brought for rest time from home as well. All bedding
will be washed weekly for your convenience and the caregiver's reassurance.
At the age of four, if you and the caregiver agree they are ready to give up nap time, they can have quiet time in the playroom. Quiet time activities are books, puzzles, activity books, flash card, coloring, play-doh, crafts and on rare occasions, a movie while the other children nap.
If you arrive during rest time, please quietly enter and help your little one stay quiet
on your way out as to not disturb the other children.
